The Birth of Dumplings
The exact origin of the dumpling is clouded in mystery and uncertainly, though most historians would agree that it originated sometime around 200 BCE, during the Han Dynasty. Hundreds of years prior to this time, the Chinese had begun to produce wheat and noodles, which helped lay the groundwork for the invention of the dumpling. Even early on in its infancy, dumplings were said to have been made with savory fillings such as lamb, and later, pork, which has since become a staple filling of dumplings.
Continued History
After their initial prominence in China, dumplings would take on a life of their own when Cantonese immigrants arrived in America, bringing dumpling recipes with them. This has helped dumplings become massively popular in America, and such success continues to this day.
